Change can be good!

Change can be overwhelming and at times too much at once can make us say, “Forget about it”. Our family has definitely had those days in our pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. There have been several occasions when my family was not very receptive to some of the changes I wanted to make. It never fails that when they are reluctant to try something new is when I have the biggest FAIL! We have all been there, I’m sure. When you’re standing there wondering how you ended up with a glob in your pan but the pic on the recipe looked so good! It’s these times that giving up seems like the natural choice.

How do you stay focused and committed without feeling like a failure when “trying new things” doesn’t work out? YOU KEEP GOING! So you caved and over indulged in sweets today because it happened to be a co-workers birthday, or whatever the situation, YOU KEEP GOING!

There will come a day when the not so good for you food you thought you would never be able to go without, is not very appealing to you anymore.  There will come a day when you no longer can feel every muscle (most you never knew existed) throbbing and aching every morning. There will come a day when you miss a workout and you are so bummed because you know your energy level won’t be as good and because you feel so great afterwards!

When you have these days, is when you will be able to look back and say, WOW, look how far I’ve come. And guess what….YOU WILL KEEP GOING!  Feeling good, I mean REALLY feeling good, day after day is addicting!

Keep moving forward and you will get to your destination!

Wellness Wednesday

Wellness Wednesday
I would be lying if I said our family didn’t indulge this Valentine’s Day Weekend! 🙂  Life is all about balance! And keeping your body properly nourished is a huge factor in maintaining your weight and energy levels. With great nutrition a not-so-great meal has a smaller impact. AND it helps keep my cravings under control, which is not an easy task!!!
We use Coreplex, OmegaPlex and the Probiotic Restore as part of our daily routine.  The terrific trio that keeps us feeling fantastic!

Mother Daughter Breakfast

Mother Daughter Time; Is Always Time Well Spent!

I had the most wonderful treat this morning. I had breakfast with my 5 year old daughter, just us two; mother-daughter breakfast. 🙂

Doing so made me realize I should make a point to do it more often. It’s not that I don’t have breakfast with her every morning, but today was special, today was time well spent!

Most morning for us are chaotic, rushed, hurried and did I mention chaotic?! By the time all 5 of us pile in the car it feels like we just completed a track and field event! And most days we don’t even medal.  🙁

If I’m lucky enough to wake up (after waking up 2-3 times to nurse the baby during the night) with time to go running, I’m thankful. For I know all to well that as soon as I walk back into the house the race begins. So why don’t we get up earlier? Well, that seems like a logical question. BUT getting up earlier would only allow for more craziness! Case in point -when we are ready to leave 15 minutes early Kash (8 months old) is guaranteed to have a blow out that results in a bath and a change of clothes (for all involved). Let’s not forget TIME only gives my kids more time to fight, get into the play dough, use toothpaste as hair gel, re-enact WWF…catch my drift! 🙂

We have realized that with young kids it is a constant race against the clock. Meaning the more time that is available increases your risk for (unplanned) craziness to creep into your morning! So, how do we combat this issue? We only allow for the very minimal amount of time physically necessary to get ready and out the door! Which leads to the above referenced track and field event in the mornings! 🙂

I have dreams of all five of us waking up very Leave it to Beaver Style and sitting down and eating breakfast together BUT then reality smacks me in the face. So, I’ll take my mother daughter breakfasts and enjoy every single minute of them! For she is growing up way too fast and soon enough our mornings will be way too calm and quiet!

Detox Salad

A good friend mentioned to me that she recently made a detox salad. I of course was intrigued and asked her for the recipe. Nonetheless, I still ended up googling it, after all how else was I going to find out everything I needed to know about it – 🙂

It sounded so good – and I do love my veggies! Since I’m always looking for new ways to eat good, real food, I tried it! It was so delicious! My kiddos were on their second bowl when I realized this was a “detox salad” so maybe just one bowl was good for them! 😉

I went on to rave about the salad and have received a few requests for the recipe. So I will share what I used. Remembering, I’m notorious for just halfway following a recipe and just using what I have in the house…well this salad no exception. Here is what I used to make this delicious detox salad.

  • 1 head broccoli
  • 1 head cauliflower
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 handful of Kale
  • ¼ C mint
  • 1/2 C Sliced Almonds (I sliced whole almonds)
  • 1/2 C Sunflower Seeds
  • ½ C Raisins
  • 1 C dried cranberries
  • 1 Gala Apple
  • 2 TBS Real Maple Syrup
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tbs white wine vinegar
  • Sea Salt

  1. Put Broccoli, Cauliflower, Kale and mint in a food processor.
  2. Pour mix into large mixing bowl.
  3. Add Carrots to food processor
  4. Add Carrots to mixture.
  5. Stir in almonds, sunflower seeds, raisins, cranberries, diced apple and salt to mixture.
  6. Toss mixture with syrup, lemon juice and vinegar.
  7. Serve

My kids (5 and 3) helped me make the salad. They think it’s a hoot to shove things into the food processor. Plus, I think whenever they help make something it tastes to much better to them! Whatever the reasons, I’ll take it!

I hope your family enjoys this yummy concoction as much as mine did!

Happy Detoxing!!! 🙂
