Mango Pear Green Smoothie

If you are like me and LOVE your green smoothies here is a recipe for mango pear green smoothie, that is absolutely delicious. I like to always mix it up and try new smoothies, so I don’t get bored and this is one of my new favorites. This smoothie is packed full of nutrition, including about 14 grams of protein; no wonder it makes for such a great pre-run (or post-run) meal!

Mango Pear Green Smoothie

  • 1-2 cups spinach (I use fresh spinach – which I have previously frozen)
  • 1 cup coconut water (coconut milk)
  • ½ avocado
  • ½ cup mango (I use frozen)
  • 1 pear cored
  • 2 tbs hemp hearts

Blend the spinach and coconut water until smooth. Add in remaining items, blend well and enjoy!

Smoothie Pops!

Smoothie Pops!

boys eating smoothie pop

On our journey to cutting out/ decreasing the amount of processed food our family eats, I have been lucky enough to run across a few awesome ideas; that are simple and so very kid approved. One of my favorites recipes to make my kiddos is smoothie pops!

Our family loves green smoothies so serving the smoothie as a popsicle should be just as delicious, right?! Well, yes, IT IS! And so very simple. Just choose your favorite smoothie recipe, blend it up and pour the smoothie into your reusable popsicle and freeze. I purchased my popsicle molds from Amazon.com.

I was introduced to these particular popsicle molds via www.100daysofrealfood.com

Any type of popsicle molds will work – but these are particularly great for lunches and very kids friendly for eating on the go.

I send these in my 1st grader’s lunch all the time. When lunch time rolls around the smoothie pop has defrosted just enough to be a cold yogurt-ish treat.

Today the boys were outside enjoying their smoothie pops and the gorgeous February weather! 🙂

Today’s smoothie pop was a pineapple, mango banana creation.

  • 2 cups spinach
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1 cup pineapple (frozen)
  • 1 cup mango (frozen)
  • 1 banana

Blend the spinach and milk until smooth then add the fruit and blend well. Pour the smoothie into your popsicle molds and freeze overnight or for 4-6 hours! Enjoy!

I hope your family loves these smoothies pops as much as mine do. Cutting out the processed foods one snack/meal at a time!

Happy Smoothie Pop Making!!!

Runner’s Smoothie

Runner’s Smoothie, Got Carbs?

One of the many reasons I love running is the high carb intake, especially before longer runs. But let me tell you, there are days when eating the amount of carbs “recommended” for a long run or race can be very difficult…I know right, cry me a river 🙂 While, I could never be a “carb free” eater, I do try to stick to whole grains. And I absolutely LOVE yogurt, so anything that doesn’t include yogurt, just isn’t for me!

With our new weekly green smoothies recipes posts I decided what better to do than concoct a runner’s smoothie! The past few weeks I have been working on a few different smoothies packed with good carbs that are equally delicious! Experimenting with new smoothie combos is becoming a new and exciting adventure in our house. My 3 yo always has very interesting suggestions! 🙂

Here is this week’s smoothie:

Runner’s Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup kale
  • 1 c cashew milk
  • 1 c yogurt (I love vanilla brown cow)
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 c oatmeal (I use uncooked)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Handful of ice

After my 15 mile training run today this was the perfect way to restore my glycogen stores! 🙂

Here are a few more runner’s smoothie recipes for before and/or after your runs!   http://www.runnersworld.com/nutrition-for-runners/nutritious-smoothies-for-runners

Banana Pineapple Green Smoothie

Banana Pineapple Green Smoothie

banana pineapple smoothie

I absolutely LOVE my green smoothies. I try to have at least one green smoothie per day! I have been flooded with people asking me for more green smoothie ideas and since I aim to please…I’m going to be posting a new smoothie recipe each week along with a few tips I’ve learned along the way. Each week I will pick a few fruits and experiment each day with different combinations and post my favorite!

Here are some basic guidelines to get you going.

Create your own yummy green smoothie with this awesome chart that breaks it all down. — SimpleGreenSmoothies.com

(taken from www.simplegreensmoothies.com )
Once you master the art of green smoothie making you can experiment and make your own yummy creations, but winging it right out of the gate…might not be the best idea.
This week’s Green Smoothie:

Banana Pineapple

2 Cups Kale

2 Cups Cashew Milk (or coconut water)

1 Banana

1 Cup Pineapple

1 Handful of Ice*

1 TBS Chia Seeds

½ TBS Vanilla

*I normally opt for frozen fruit instead of ice but in this recipe it works great. The banana adds enough thickness.

The cashew milk makes the combo of sweet and nutty flavor delicious! For a more tropical version try using coconut water or coconut milk.

How to make the Best Green Smoothies:

  • Blend the liquid and greens together first – this helps avoid any large clumps
  • I use fresh spinach/kale that I freeze – stay fresh longer and helps to make a cold creamy smoothie
  • Make smoothies ahead of time for one the go, in a rush meal ideas – Mason jars work great for storage – 2-3 days max in the refrigerator.
  • Add in a cup of plain greek yogurt – makes for an extra thick smoothie. 🙂
  • Enjoy!

If you have any fruit/veggies you would like to incorporate leave a comment and I will experiment!

Green Smoothies!!!

Green Smoothies – A small change can provide HUGE results.

green smoothies storage

Life with 3 kids is no walk in the park. There are days that I don’t know what day it is or even what time it is – and there are more than a few days I wonder how we even survive our busy schedules! So when people tell me they “don’t have time” to eat healthy I just chuckle inside and think…yeah because I have so much extra “time”, lol! (Moms you all know exactly what I meanJ)

So what is the magic key to success?!  Well we all know what it is – MEAL PREP! My family has our moments when we are not prepared and guess what happens? Our choices become LIMITED! So what do we do? MEAL PREP!!!  I always try a keep a few good choices in the freezer for when we are in a pinch!

Last week we had somewhere to be every evening – we normally try to avoid scheduling our lives so chaotic, but sometimes life can’t be avoided. In an effort to have good choices on hand I spent a few minutes over the weekend getting my ingredients together for green smoothies! #ilovegreensmoothies

I am a huge fan of green smoothies. They are easy, nutritious and delicious! And on top of that my kiddos LOVE them! I try to have one everyday. They are great workout fuel as well! Adding a green smoothie to your daily routine can have enormous health benefits!

My favorite Green Smoothie – Pre Workout Snack

1 c  Spinach (I use fresh spinach that I have previously frozen)

1 c  Cashew milk

¼- ½ Avocado

¼ Tsp Vanilla

½- 1 Banana

Handful of Ice

I was hesitant to try this gem – but it is delicious!!!

I get a ton of recipes from www.simplegreensmoothies.com . It’s also fun creating new recipes and my kids really enjoy inventing new smoothies! You can throw some protein powder in there and you have a complete meal!
